    Another upcycled fashion show designer, Edelweiss Vogel, is using her artwork as a way to pay homage to her heritage. Vogel grew up in Manila, the capital of The Philippines, and moved to Charlotte at age 18 to pursue a BFA in Studio Arts at UNC Charlotte. She’s now an illustrator and educator.

    Each year ArtPop Street Gallery selects 20 talented local artists to feature their art on billboards around the Charlotte region for residents to enjoy. At a Dec. 2 ceremony, the nonprofit revealed its class of 2022, chosen from a record number of applicants across a 13-county region.

  • Brawley School students celebrate International Peace Day with pinwheels

    The occasional sound of a car horn broke through the standard noise of Brawley School Road, but for one morning, it wasn’t to signify displeasure with another driver, it was to support the kids planting pinwheels in the ground as a celebration of the International Day of Peace.

    “I have to say that I’m very proud of my students,” Edelweiss Vogel, visual arts teacher at The Brawley School, said. “They got very involved and took it very personally, especially when they saw it outside.”

    I’ve always been fascinated with history. I find inspiration in many things, from contemporary and stylistic comic book art to the techniques of the past; like the Expressionist, Rococo Period, Baroque, Avant-Garde and Art Deco.
